when did you start doing art? what/who inspires or influences your art? I've been performing since I was a kiddo. Singing my first solos in the church at 5. Singing led to theatre. I dabbled a tiny bit in the visual during a phase in high school where i tried to come across more "artsy" It was never good. Four years ago, I was working for a local business and the owner suggested I do something crafty to sale at our monthly sidewalk night. "I can't draw...I can only write in 12 fonts" was my go to response, so I started painting witty quotes on recycled wood. I attempted the occasional flower or cacti. Although I have dealt with chronic pain issues since 16, things all of a sudden started getting much worse. Fast Forward to me going on disability two years ago. I had given up. 30 and disability. I was done. In the mean time I had been painting more, moving on to multi faceted fruit designs, leading to a small show at a local cafe. Two surgeries later though, I pretty much stopped painting. Then one day, about 8 months ago, I was feeling horrible, really hating my body and decided I would attempt a self portrait of sorts of just my torso. That portrait became more, more bodies, more live volunteers, commissions and now my current projects Tits Across Texas, a diversity project, #jillgivesatit, a womens empowerment project and 20 Minute Goddess, a series of 20 minute diverse portraits. More information on these can be seen on my social media platforms. I am obviously very inspired by my pain and my journey, but also very much so by the nature and its cycles and rhythms. The moon and her guidance. I'm also EXTREMELY inspired by the feminist, sex positive, and body positive communities on instagram. do you have a favorite piece that you have done? why is it your favorite? Is it super vain to say my most recent self portrait? haha. Who cares. My most recent self portrait, titled "I'm your Venus" Seeing myself as art the first time seriously flipped a switch in my brain. In every updated portrait I do of myself, I find more beauty in myself as well. what else do you like to do? do you have any hobbies or anything? While my medium is mostly watercolor these days, I do wood burning as well. It is a fun little change of pace. I love plants, especially cacti and succulents. I'm a fan of most anything that involves getting in water. When I'm feeling up to up, I like to volunteer at my best girl's local community garden (@midcountyvictorygarden) I'm super into crystals and stones, have a nice little collection. My body likes to get in the way of me doing most things, but I'm slowly learning to focus on the things I CAN do. What else? Is sex and masturbation a hobby? Sleep? I try to do lots of that. where can people see your art? can you purchase it anywhere? Currently I have some wood burned pieces hanging at local paleo cafe @ gatherpaleocafeandmarket Typically pieces can be seen at local salon @shearmadnesssalon but i'm working on a new show TBA Set up at a market near you! Okay, more like a market near me! website- jillwaldrepart.bigcartel.com where can people find you/add you/follow you online? I think I first came into contact with Greta on Livejournal maybe?! I was very active on that site from about 2003 to maybe 2009... We kept in touch (sort of) through social media over the years! She recently ordered some stuff from my Etsy Store and of course i remembered her :) It was cool to hear from her and be back in touch! Here's what she has been up to lately..... Tell me a little about yourself
My name is Greta. I turned 35 in March. I live in Tennessee. When did you discover Riot Grrrl & zines? How did it impact or influence you & your life? How do you think it has changed over the years? I discovered riot grrrl in 1998. I recently got into reading zines because I didn't have access to getting any zines. The riot grrrl movement made me realize how important equality, feminism, and women's rights are to everyone. It helped me learn about each of these issues. I think there has been a riot grrrl revival going on since the riot grrrl movement began. I think some people don't realize riot grrrl isnt about labels, fashion, etc. but about speaking out about women's issues. Tell me about Riot Grrrl Online, When & why did you start it? Is it something that you still do? Riot Grrrl Online is located here now: http://riotgrrrlonline. wordpress.com/ I started the first Riot Grrrl Online website on Angelfire, then got hosted by: girlsvomitcandy.com then hot-topic.org, which are both no more. I had noticed a lack of riot grrrl websites when I created the first Riot Grrrl Online website on Angelfire. What other projects did you do/have you done, & are you currently working on anything new? I finally got my own domains but I haven't really started building them yet. I'm going to start making websites again. I've had various websites about various things over the years. I love creating websites. Have you read any good books lately? No, I haven't had much time to read in a long time. I do need to get back into reading books. How can people contact you or find you online? @riotgrrrlonline on Twitter Even if I'm not posting on Twitter, I still check my messages and notifications. |
